IC INFO
Name: Rewind (alternate Lost Light)
Canon/Continuity: IDW Transformers
Reference: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Rewind_%28G1%29#IDW_Generation_1_continuity
Canon Point: MTMTE #33, doing the thing with Megatron, just as he thinks he’s about to fade out of existence
Personality: Rewind is a pretty personable bot! He’s often described as excitable and cheerful, and he’s quite sociable. He’s definitely outgoing and likes people and is often seen hanging around in large groups, although he’s not usually the center of attention. He’s more of the “party host” type -- Rewind delights in facilitating a good time for others. He’d rather be the one who threw the cool party everyone talks about for weeks afterward than necessarily be the center of it. Rewind is the curious sort -- he’s interested in knowledge in general but particularly history, seeing as he’s a walking archive of data and footage, much of it recorded by himself. Rewind is a history and film enthusiast -- he likes to document history as it happens and he almost reflexively starts recording from his convenient head-mounted vidcam whenever something interesting starts happening. He’s a hobbyist curator of Cybertronian history, a collector -- or a data hoarder, depending on who you ask. The massive amounts of data he has stored in his archives mean that his recall and retrieval can be a little delayed, at times -- he doesn’t always remember what he’s trying to access right away, and the recall sometimes comes at an inconvenient time. Occasionally he gets data retention headaches from the sheer volume of what he’s collected. Boy does he ever love trivia, though.

Rewind’s got a creative streak, too! After living for several million years with a camera bolted to your head, you tend to get a little artistic. Rewind doesn’t just enjoy recording history -- he likes making it, too; he’s been known to edit together his own little reels and even work on a few documentaries of his own. Rewind seems like your everyday cheerful kind of bot, but he’s got sort of an odd, occasionally morbid sense of humor -- he’s given to biting little quips and asides that seem to go unnoticed half the time, and Rewind’s idea of a good time is dragging your buddy’s comatose body to the bar for an evening of storytelling. He’s been around for a long, long time, but he’s persevered. He’s also not as squeamish as you might guess at a glance -- in his determined quest to confirm the death of his former conjunx endura, Dominus Ambus, he’s sifted through countless hours of gruesome footage. He’s far from unshakable, but he’s still standing after being forced to record the D.J.D.’s massacre of his Lost Light -- but it probably helps that he looks at an awful lot through his camera lens. He’s definitely not a soldier, but he’s pretty brave -- to the point of occasionally going into dangerous situations just to prove he can.

Rewind is a lot of things, determined among them. His devotion to his current conjunx endura, Chromedome, through some pretty rigorously difficult times, and his dedication to finding some confirmation of what happened to Dominus are both pretty remarkable. He’s an emotional and intuitive person -- he’s not half bad at talking to others about their feelings, given the chance, and he’s quick to offer advice. He doesn’t always take his own advice, though, and Rewind is far from without his own problems -- he has some trouble letting things go, and while he’s pretty kind and generous overall, he’s definitely not perfect. He has the capacity to be kind of a dick at times, and he sure can get on the passive aggressive side when he feels slighted. He’s got a bit of a -- totally deserved -- complex about his alt mode, a memory stick, which in the previous Functionist regime had made him part of the “disposable” caste. Rewind’s been through a lot, and he remembers it all -- in some form or another.

AU Information:
As mentioned above, this Rewind is from the other Lost Light, the one that arrived at its intended destination after the initial launch. The wiki link actually covers it pretty clearly in the last few paragraphs, but the basics of what went down differently on LL2 was that the issue with Overlord was handled differently and didn’t result in a bunch of people (Rewind included) dying. UNFORTUNATELY, on this Lost Light the Decepticon Justice Division showed up instead and murdered just about everyone on the ship, save Rewind -- who they forced to record the whole thing so they could have a souvenir. They also tried to force Chromedome to erase his own memories of Rewind -- but Chromedome refused, so they killed him right in front of Rewind, and pretty gruesomely at that. After that, Rewind managed to crawl into the Ultra Magnus armor and hide until the D.J.D. finally left the ship.

Rewind’s met the crew of LL1 at this point, and he’s already resigned to some degree that his Chromedome is gone. He isn’t actually aware that the other Rewind died -- he’s under the impression that the other Rewind and Chromedome are still together, and while he hasn’t exactly had much time to grieve, he’s sort of made peace with the fact that Chromedome is dead, and that he’s about to fade out of existence too (except not!). He’s also still pretty traumatized from the whole D.J.D. massacre.

Character Abilities:
TRANSFORMATION: Like almost all Cybertronians, Rewind can transform; his alt mode is a giant memory stick, although he has access to all the same storage even in robot mode. Yes, it’s not very useful, he knows.

CAMERA: He’s got a little vidcam bolted right to the side of his head that can record and store footage directly into his internal archives. No guns on this minibot, sorry!

Character Inventory: BUTT TONS OF FOOTAGE AND DATA that’s about it though

Third Person Sample: The last thing he remembers is those last few moments with Megatron, by the quantum drums. The thing is, Rewind hadn’t expected to remember anything at all. He hadn’t expected to exist beyond those last few moments.

But here he is, waking up in an oddly comfortable room -- by organic standards, anyway, although Rewind doesn’t really mind the softness of the place -- as if he’d just slipped into recharge on his slab. He hadn’t counted on being around to remember anything -- an odd thought, for him. With all his data and footage, all his collected archives from the war and long before, he’s a walking memorial. But according to Nautica, he and the rest of the other Lost Light couldn’t have continued to coexist with theirs... Is that why he’s here, then? Rewind had thought he’d simply fade away, but maybe he’s been brought here, instead.

Wherever here is. He’s cautious and a little wary as he slowly inspects the room he’s in, gently probing. There’s no way of telling what kind of place he’s in or why -- or how -- but he knows he’s alive, that’s for sure. And being alive means he’s thinking -- thinking about Chromedome. The last time he’d seen Chromedome, his conjunx endura had had his own surgical needles sticking out of his cracked and bleeding visor… Rewind shudders at the mental image coming up unbidden, trying to shake it away. He’d consoled himself with the knowledge that the other version of him and Chromedome were still going strong, according to Megatron -- but that had only ever been meant as a temporary measure. That sort of reassurance isn’t meant to sustain for long.

He’d spent a lot of time hiding in that Magnus armor, shoving the footage the D.J.D. had made him record to the far corners of his memory banks. It was time he could’ve spent coming to terms with Chromedome’s death, with everyone’s, but how? He’d been alone, the sole survivor, left to cower in the middle of a massacre. That’s no kind of place to heal. But this place… Rewind’s visor is still dim, his spark still uneasy even as he looks out the window to see a vista of the city, but even so, he thinks -- maybe this is. He wants to know why he’s here and how, what the real deal is with this place, but as long as he’s here… Well, it’s not like he has any choice about existing or not. He might as well make good use of his time here, see what he can puzzle out, and Chromedome… Rewind knows he’ll never forget about Chromedome.
